Damnatio Memoriae is a piece of media that visualises the erasing of a figure from history. This video was created in a first-year project at university and was rewarded a first-class marking.
I was inspired by the current online phenomenon of 'cancel culture' and wanted to create something showing how easy it is for someone to be erased and forgotten. I did research and discovered the roman practice of Damnatio Memoriea, which was written to be a punishment worse than death.
From the research of both editing and the practice I have created this stop motion feature to the music of 'Uranus', by Sleeping at Last.
